Located in Melbourne, this student accommodation is designed with a neutral colour palette that is flexible, whilst keeping a vibrant and modern feel. With current student housing being overcrowded, poorly design and maintained, this space focuses on creating a functional, open and comfortable living environment.

The space has been designed to accommodate students aged 18-35, so the materiality is kept minimal allowing for the interior scheme to be changed and styled to suit the individuals wants and to reflect their personality.

Flexible living spaces have been incorporated into the design through innovative custom designed joinery that can be revealed or hidden when needed, adding more functionality to the space. The joinery can be folded out to create dining and sleeping areas or hidden to create an open living and kitchen area. There is also a generous amount of storage cupboards which allow all items to be hidden within the cabinets, creating a clean and uncluttered environment.

Natural light has been carefully considered throughout the design, with floor to ceiling windows which allow plenty of natural light into the space. These spaces continue the theme of a neutral colour palette, with selections of whites from the walls and cupboards, grey tones from the concrete flooring and couch, dark tones from the rug and cushions and warm tones from the timber.

The design proposal has created the ultimate ‘home-away-from-home’ living experience for students: accommodation that includes high-quality public and private facilities, a secure living environment, comfort, privacy and the ability to cater for the evolving needs of individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
